Is Sengled out of business? What we know, and what still works

From Tomorrowish, the makers of Relight, an independent iPhone app for Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs. Every fix on this page works without it. Checked November 2, 2026.

Short answer: we could not find an official announcement either way. No press release, no statement from Sengled and no court filing that we could find. What can be checked points to a smart-home service that has stopped working for many of its owners:

The open-source SengledTools project, which owners use to keep their bulbs going, says at the top of its page: "Sengled's original cloud backend is no longer operational."

Do my bulbs still work?

That depends on the kind of bulb. Read the model code on its base (how).

What to do now

  1. Keep Wi-Fi bulbs on your Wi-Fi. Don't reset bulbs that still connect; a reset takes them off your network.
  2. Don't throw them out yet. Wi-Fi bulbs can be controlled locally, and Zigbee bulbs can move hubs.
  3. Think twice before buying more. A new bulb has to be set up in the Sengled app first. A reviewer wrote on October 29, 2026: "downloaded the app and can't create an account in order to connect the bulbs". If you just bought some, check your store's return window.

Questions

Is Sengled still in business?

We found no official announcement of a shutdown or bankruptcy. Its Alexa skill was removed on August 1, 2025, its app was last updated on February 26, 2025, and its websites failed to load securely on November 2, 2026.

Will my Sengled bulbs stop working completely?

The light itself keeps working from the wall switch. What depends on Sengled's servers is app, voice and remote control.

Do Sengled Zigbee bulbs still work?

Yes, when they are paired to a hub that isn't Sengled's, such as an Echo with a built-in Zigbee hub.

Should I buy Sengled bulbs now?

Not if you want app control. New bulbs are set up through the Sengled app, and many recent reviewers say they cannot create an account.

An app for this: Relight

Relight controls Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs over your home Wi-Fi with no Sengled account and no Relight account, so it doesn't depend on anyone's servers, ours included.

It works only with Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs and strips (code starting with W), only while your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi, and it doesn't connect to Alexa or Google Home.

Relight is an iPhone app from Tomorrowish. It needs no account and has no cloud: commands go from your iPhone straight to the bulbs on your Wi-Fi. Full control of 2 lights is free; Relight Pro is a one-time $3.99 for every light, scenes, Siri and Shortcuts, and a Home Screen widget. No subscription.
