Sengled Home app not working or won't let you log in: what you can still do

From Tomorrowish, the makers of Relight, an independent iPhone app for Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs. Every fix on this page works without it. Checked November 2, 2026.

If the Sengled Home app answers every sign-in, password reset or new account with "operation failed" or a network timeout, it isn't your phone. The app's own App Store page is full of the same report: every one of the 40 reviews written on the US App Store in October 2026 gave it 1 or 2 stars, and 19 of them describe sign-in, password or account failures. One, from October 26, 2026: "App won't allow you to create new account, sign in with existing account or use Apple to create new." The newest version on the App Store is 2.8.10, from February 26, 2025.

The app signs in through Sengled's servers. Those had days-long outages in 2025, and Amazon removed Sengled's Alexa skill on August 1, 2025, citing "prolonged outages". When we checked on November 2, 2026, sengled.com and support.sengled.com would not even open securely. Nothing you change on your phone fixes the server side.

1. Don't reset your bulbs

This is the move that makes it worse. A reset wipes the bulb's Wi-Fi settings, and the Sengled app was the official way to put it back. A Home Assistant forum user did exactly that in August 2025: factory reset the bulbs, then found that signing in and creating an account both failed. A bulb that is still on your Wi-Fi can be controlled without the app (step 4). A reset one is much harder to bring back.

2. Try the usual fixes once, briefly

Delete and reinstall the app, try on mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, and use "Forgot password". Reviewers say the reset email often never arrives, so give this ten minutes, not an evening.

3. Your bulbs still work as bulbs

A Sengled Wi-Fi bulb doesn't need the app to light up: the wall switch still turns it on and off. In our own test, a W21-N13 came back on after a power cut at the brightness and colour it had before. What you lose without the app is dimming, colour and control from your phone.

4. Control them without the app

Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs (the model code on the base starts with W) also take commands straight from other devices on your home network, no Sengled account involved. The open-source SengledTools project documented this and ships a free Home Assistant integration that uses it; an iPhone app can do the same. Both are compared in how to control Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs without the app.

5. Not a Wi-Fi bulb?

If the code starts with E it is a Zigbee bulb and can move to another Zigbee hub, such as an Echo with a built-in hub. If it starts with B it is a Bluetooth Mesh bulb that pairs with an Echo. See is my Sengled bulb Wi-Fi, Zigbee or Bluetooth.

Questions

Why does the Sengled app say "operation failed"?

The app signs in and creates accounts through Sengled's servers, which have been unreliable since 2025. Reinstalling the app or restarting your phone doesn't change that.

Can I use Sengled bulbs without an account?

Yes, if they are Wi-Fi bulbs still joined to your Wi-Fi. Home Assistant's Sengled UDP integration or a local iPhone app can control them with no account, and the wall switch still works.

Should I factory reset my Sengled bulbs?

Not while they still connect to your Wi-Fi. A reset erases the Wi-Fi settings, and setting a bulb up again without the Sengled app is possible but harder.

Is there a newer Sengled Home app?

On November 2, 2026 the App Store showed version 2.8.10, released February 26, 2025, as the latest.

An app for this: Relight

Relight was made for exactly this. It finds Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs on your home Wi-Fi in a few seconds and controls them directly, with no Sengled account and no Relight account: on and off, brightness, warm to cool white and colour.

It works only with Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs and strips (code starting with W), only while your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi, and it doesn't connect to Alexa or Google Home.

Relight is an iPhone app from Tomorrowish. It needs no account and has no cloud: commands go from your iPhone straight to the bulbs on your Wi-Fi. Full control of 2 lights is free; Relight Pro is a one-time $3.99 for every light, scenes, Siri and Shortcuts, and a Home Screen widget. No subscription.
