Phomemo printer stuck, busy or showing a red light

From Tomorrowish, the makers of Paperpaw, an independent app for these printers. Every fix on this page works without it. Checked November 2, 2026.

When a Phomemo printer stops responding, the light on the front is the quickest clue. Here is what Phomemo says the lights mean on the M02 Pro, and what to do about each one.

What the light means

Clear the warning the app shows

Stuck "busy" or nothing happens when you tap Print

Usually something else still holds the connection: another phone, a tablet, or a second printer app on the same phone. A printer talks to one device at a time. Close the app on the other device (or turn its Bluetooth off), then:

  1. Swipe the printer app away to close it.
  2. Turn the printer off and on.
  3. Open the app and connect again.

If the printer keeps switching itself off, check the automatic shutdown time in the app's device settings; Phomemo puts it on the "Manage Devices" page. Some models also have a small reset hole next to the charging port: press it gently with a paperclip to restart the printer.

Still stuck

Press the power button twice to print the self-test page. If it prints, the hardware is fine. Phomemo's support asks for a photo of that page when a problem may need a firmware update.

Questions

What does a solid red light on a Phomemo printer mean?

It is a fault: usually out of paper, cover not fully closed or the print head overheating. Open the app and tap Print to see which.

What does a flashing red light mean?

Low battery. Charge the printer.

My Phomemo says print head overheating. What do I do?

Turn it off for about 15 minutes to let the head cool, then print again.

Why does my Phomemo printer stay busy?

Another phone or app is usually still connected to it. Close the app there, restart the printer and connect again.

If you'd rather skip the app trouble: Paperpaw

Paperpaw sends one print at a time, so jobs never pile up, and it lets go of the printer when you leave the app, so the next app (or phone) can connect. When the printer reports a problem, Paperpaw says it in plain words.

Paperpaw needs no account and shows no ads. It works with the Phomemo M02, M02S, M02 Pro and T02, and the M110, M120 and M220 label printers. Printing photos, labels, notes and lists is free; Paperpaw Pro is a one-time $4.99, no subscription.
