Phomemo paper not feeding, or it says out of paper when it isn't

From Tomorrowish, the makers of Paperpaw, an independent app for these printers. Every fix on this page works without it. Checked November 2, 2026.

Two different problems end up here: the printer thinks there is no paper when there is, or the paper is there but doesn't move. Both usually have a simple cause.

"Out of paper" with a roll inside (M02, M02 Pro, M02S, T02)

First the basics: open the cover, put the roll in so the paper comes off toward the slot with the printing side facing the head (the side that marks when you scratch it), pull a little out through the slot, and close the cover firmly.

If it still says no paper, Phomemo has a reset that makes the printer re-learn its paper sensor:

  1. Take the roll out and turn the printer on. The light should be solid red.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 10 to 20 seconds, until the light flashes twice. The printer turns off while you hold it; keep holding until it flashes.
  3. Turn the printer back on, load the paper and print again.

Label printers (M110, M120, M220): paper not detected

  1. Reinstall the roll on the right side of the holder (M110 and M120) and pull the labels out to the opening.
  2. Clean the paper sensor near the roller with an alcohol cotton pad.
  3. Use labels the right size for the printer, and set that size in the app.

Paper is in, but it won't feed

Phomemo's checklist for feed problems:

Paper that is crumpled or was pulled out sideways can jam. Tear off the bent part so a straight edge goes in.

Questions

Why does my Phomemo say out of paper when there is paper?

The paper sensor needs to re-learn. Take the roll out, turn the printer on (solid red light), hold the power button 10 to 20 seconds until the light flashes twice, then restart and reload.

Why won't the paper feed on my Phomemo label printer?

Check the roll holder isn't too tight and the core fits, pull the labels 1 cm past the opening, try another roll, clean the head and roller, and use the reset hole if your model has one.

Which way does the paper go in a Phomemo M02?

With the printing side facing the print head. Scratch the paper with a fingernail: the side that leaves a mark is the printing side.

If you'd rather skip the app trouble: Paperpaw

Paperpaw can't fix a mechanical feed problem; that is the printer. Once paper is moving, its setup guide prints a test page so you can see straight away that paper, darkness and connection are all right.

Paperpaw needs no account and shows no ads. It works with the Phomemo M02, M02S, M02 Pro and T02, and the M110, M120 and M220 label printers. Printing photos, labels, notes and lists is free; Paperpaw Pro is a one-time $4.99, no subscription.
