Foray help
Foray keeps a quiet record of the times you go out. Most questions are about how it notices you leaving and what it keeps. The same answers are in the app under Settings → Help & FAQ.

Noticing you leave
Why does Foray need "Always" location?
Foray notices when you leave home, so you never have to remember to start it. iOS only lets an app notice that with Always. Your location is used to record your forays and nothing else. With While Using, Foray still works: tap Start on the map when you head out and End when you're back.
Foray didn't notice me leave
- Check that Location is set to Always with Precise Location on (iPhone Settings → Foray → Location).
- Check the home pin. A foray starts once you're past the circle around home, so a big circle misses short trips: Foray → Settings → Pick Home on Map.
- If you swipe Foray away in the app switcher, iOS can take a few minutes to wake it again. Leaving it in the background is fine and costs almost no battery.
- You can always tap Start yourself.
There's a gap or a dashed line in my route
A dashed line joins two points with nothing recorded between them. That happens underground, on trains and in cars, and when iOS holds back location for a while. Settings → Tracking health shows how much of your walking was recorded on recent forays.
A foray started or ended at the wrong time
During a foray, tap End on the map to finish it now. To throw it away instead: Settings → Active Outing → Cancel This Outing. To remove one afterwards: Journeys → tap the foray → Delete Outing.
How much battery does Foray use?
Between forays, almost none: Foray waits for iOS's low-power signals that you've left home. During a foray it uses GPS, like a walking app, and eases off while you stay in one place. Settings → Tracking health shows how much battery your phone used on each foray.
My distance looks wrong
Farthest is measured to the farthest point Foray recorded. Tall buildings and garages can throw one point off. You can delete a foray from Journeys if it's badly wrong.
Your history
Where is my history kept?
On your phone, and in your own iCloud account when you're signed in. Foray has no server and no account, and nobody else can see your forays. Settings → Data shows when your history last backed up.
iCloud backs up your home, forays and routes, notes, chapters and safe spots, and from Foray 1.3.1 your exposure ladder, anxiety ratings, weekly minimums and foray goal too. Other settings (nudges, week note, trusted person, app icon) stay on the phone; an iPhone backup or moving to a new iPhone brings them along.
Moving to a new phone
Sign in to the same iCloud account, install Foray and open it. Your forays come back within a few minutes. Set Location to Always again when iOS asks.
iCloud backup isn't working
Make sure you're signed in to iCloud and that iCloud is allowed for Foray (iPhone Settings → your name → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud). If you've just signed back in, give it a few minutes.
Exporting your forays
Settings → Data → Export outings as CSV makes a spreadsheet file: start and end time, duration, farthest distance, mood, chapter, reason and notes. Routes and places aren't in it.
Deleting everything
Settings → Data → Erase All Foray Data removes everything from the phone and from your iCloud backup. It asks you to type ERASE first.
Foray+
What's free and what's Foray+?
Free, always: noticing when you leave, your record book and week view, the Sunday week note, Breathe, Heading Home, texting someone you trust, the Apple Watch app, one safe spot and the first 3 ladder steps. Foray+ adds the full ladder, the before-and-after anxiety chart, the one-page therapist summary, Live Activity, the widget, patterns, goals, unlimited safe spots and chapters, and Apple Health.
I paid but Foray+ isn't on
Open Foray → Settings → Try Foray+ and tap Restore at the top left. Use the same Apple ID you paid with.
Cancelling or getting a refund
Subscriptions are cancelled in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Foray+. Lifetime purchases never renew. Apple handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Apple Watch and shortcuts
The Watch app isn't on my watch
Open the Watch app on your iPhone → My Watch → scroll to Available Apps → Install next to Foray.
Starting from the watch doesn't start a foray
The watch asks your iPhone to start. Keep the iPhone nearby with Bluetooth on; Foray doesn't need to be open on it.
Breathe or Heading Home in one press
On iOS 18 you can put Breathe, Heading Home and Start a Foray in Control Center, on the Lock Screen or on the Action button. In Control Center, tap + → Add a Control and search for Foray.
Something else
Stuck, or want something Foray doesn't do yet? Email hello@tomorrowish.dev. The app's Email Foray button (Settings → Help & FAQ) fills in your version for you. A real person reads every message, usually within a day or two.
