Foray Privacy Policy
The short version: Foray collects location data so it can measure your outings, and that data stays on your device or in your private iCloud account. There is no Foray server. We don't see your data.
Location
Foray uses precise location, including in the background while an outing is active, to detect when you cross outside a small radius around your home, to measure your distance and duration during an outing, and to draw your route on the map.
This data is stored on your device and (if you're signed into iCloud) in your private CloudKit database. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
You can revoke location access any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Foray.
Notifications
Foray schedules optional local notifications: gentle nudges if you haven't been on a foray in a few days, goal-completion alerts, and a Sunday evening note with the week's forays. These are scheduled and delivered by iOS locally and never leave your device.
Anxiety ratings and the therapist summary (optional)
The 0 to 10 anxiety ratings you give at the start and end of a foray, and your exposure ladder, are stored on your device. From Foray 1.3.1 they are also copied, with your weekly minimums and foray goal, to the private key-value storage in your own iCloud account when you're signed in, so a reinstall or a new phone gets them back. We never receive or see them, and Erase All Foray Data removes the iCloud copy too. The one-page therapist summary (Foray+) is made on your phone, has no map, places or notes, and goes only where you send it.
HealthKit (optional)
When you turn on the Apple Health toggle (Foray+ only), Foray writes each completed outing to the Health app as an outdoor walking workout. Foray never reads from Health — only writes. You can revoke access in iOS Settings → Privacy → Health → Foray.
Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by Apple. Foray receives a confirmation that you're entitled to Foray+ but does not see your payment details, name, address, or Apple ID.
What Foray doesn't do
- No analytics or telemetry
- No crash reporting
- No advertising
- No accounts to create
- No third-party SDKs
- No selling, sharing, or transmitting your data
Children
Foray is rated 4+ but is not specifically designed for children. We collect no data, so there's nothing to handle differently for users under 13.
Changes
If this policy materially changes, the date at the top of the page will update and we'll note it in the app's What's New on the next release.
