Privacy: what runs where
Short version: your messages never leave your computer. Court Copy is a web page that does all its work inside your browser.
What happens to your backup or file
- When you choose a backup folder or file, your browser lets this page read it. Some browsers call this “upload”; nothing is sent anywhere.
- The page reads only what it needs: the backup's index (
Manifest.plist,Manifest.db), the Messages database, the contacts database (for names) and the pictures of the one conversation you pick. - For an encrypted backup, the password is used in the page to unlock those files and is then forgotten. It is never sent or saved.
- The PDF, CSV or text file is made in the page and handed to your browser as a download. Nothing is kept after you close the tab.
What the page does send
| Request | To | What it contains |
|---|---|---|
| Loading the page, its code, fonts and the SQLite reader | tomorrowish.dev (hosted on Cloudflare Pages) | The usual request a browser makes for any web page (your IP address and browser type reach the host). No message data. |
| Checking a licence key (only if you enter one) | Polar (polar.sh), the shop that sells the key | The key itself. Nothing else. |
What the page stores in your browser
- A copy of its own files, so it works offline next time (a service worker cache).
- Your licence key, if you entered one, so you don't have to type it again. Clear the site's data to remove it.
Check it yourself
Load the page, then turn off Wi-Fi or unplug the network and do the whole job. It still works, because nothing needs the network. In Chrome's developer tools (Network tab) you can watch every request the page makes.
Questions: the page is made by Tomorrowish LLC (hello@tomorrowish.dev). The code that runs is the code your browser downloads; its open-source parts and licences are listed in LICENSES.txt.
Open Court Copy: free preview of any conversation, nothing uploaded.
