Help

It says it can't find my reference list

It looks for the last paragraph that says only References, Bibliography, Works Cited, Literature Cited or Sources, and checks the paragraphs under it until the next heading of the same level. If your list has another heading, select the reference paragraphs and press Check references again. References inside tables, footnotes and text boxes are not read.

A real reference says "Not found"

It means none of the indexes the add-on asks has a matching record. That happens often for books from small presses, book chapters, theses, reports, conference talks, older and non-English work. Check it in a library catalogue such as WorldCat or the publisher's site. Reading how to check whether a citation is real may help.

"Mismatch" is wrong

Sometimes the index record is the one that's wrong (a misspelled name, an online date a year earlier than the print issue), or the same title exists as a conference paper and a journal article. Open the record link to compare. Only apply a fix you agree with.

Undoing a fix

Press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) straight away, or open File › Version history and restore an earlier version.

"Not checked"

An index did not answer in time, or the daily limit for that document was reached. Nothing was decided; try again later. The limit resets at midnight UTC.

Permissions and removal

The add-on can only open the document it is used in. To remove it: Extensions › Add-ons › Manage add-ons › Bibliography Verifier › Uninstall. Details are in the privacy policy.
