Stayby Privacy Policy
The short version: Stayby collects no data. It works between your Apple Watch and your iPhone and nothing else. There is no Stayby server, no account and nothing sent to us.
Bluetooth
Stayby keeps one Bluetooth connection between your Apple Watch and your iPhone. When that connection breaks, your Watch knows you've walked away from your iPhone. The connection only carries a few small signals between your own two devices: whether the Watch is pausing, whether the iPhone has left a safe zone, and (with Pro) your iPhone's battery level. While watching, your iPhone advertises a Stayby Bluetooth service so your Watch can find it; that advertisement contains no name, account or location.
Location (optional)
If you add a safe zone, such as home, Stayby saves that place on your iPhone so alerts wait longer there. If you allow location "Always", iOS tells Stayby when your iPhone enters or leaves a safe zone, even when the app is closed. With Pro you can also turn on "Remember where it happened": when your Watch is left behind, your iPhone saves where that happened so you can see it on a map. All of this stays on your iPhone. The map itself is drawn by Apple Maps, which loads map images for the area on screen. You can turn location off any time in iPhone Settings → Apps → Stayby.
Motion & Fitness (optional, Pro)
For "Tell me if I leave my Watch", Stayby checks whether your iPhone was moving at the moment the Watch connection dropped, so it can tell who walked away. It reads this on your iPhone only and keeps nothing.
Notifications
Alerts are local notifications created on your own devices. Nothing passes through us.
Settings and the alert log
Your settings, safe zones, quiet hours and the alert log are stored on your devices. Your iPhone and Watch keep each other's settings in step through Apple's Watch connection. The Watch face complication reads the Watch app's status through the Watch's keychain. Deleting the app deletes them; your device backups may include them, depending on your settings.
Purchases
The optional "Stayby Pro" purchase is processed by Apple. Stayby only learns whether your Apple Account (or your Family Sharing group) owns Pro; it never sees your payment details, name, address or Apple ID.
Ratings
Now and then, after Stayby has been looking out for you for a while, the app may show Apple's standard "rate this app" prompt. Apple handles it; we receive no personal data from it.
What Stayby doesn't do
- No analytics or telemetry
- No crash reporting
- No advertising
- No accounts to create
- No third-party SDKs
- No network connections of its own
- No selling, sharing, or transmitting your data
Children
Stayby is rated 4+ but is not specifically designed for children. We collect no data, so there's nothing to handle differently for users under 13.
Changes
If this policy materially changes, the date at the top of the page will update and we'll note it in the app's What's New on the next release.
