Omniranker Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 14, 2026

The short version: Omniranker is local-first. Your personal lists, items, photos, and rankings live only on your device. The universal-list voting and entity submission features require a lightweight account so we can prevent abuse — see below for what that means.

What lives on your device

Lists, items, photos you attach, locations you attach, comparisons you make, daily prompt history, tier assignments, and stars. None of it leaves the app unless you choose to share it (e.g. via the iOS share sheet or by exporting your data as JSON from the You tab).

Accounts

Voting in the universal pool and submitting new entities requires an account. The first time you tap a voting or submit action, the app generates a random device identifier and uses it to create an anonymous "device account" on our backend. We store that identifier and the date the account was created. We do not store your IP address, device model, or any other identifier alongside it.

You can optionally link an email and password to the same account so you can sign in on other devices. If you do, we store your email address and your chosen display name. We store passwords salted and hashed; we never see your plaintext password.

You can delete your account from the You tab in the app at any time. Deletion removes your account record and your individual vote rows from our database. Each entity's aggregate rating and total vote count is preserved so the leaderboard stays stable.

Universal list votes and submissions

When you vote, we record which entity won and which lost, the time of the vote, and the account that cast it. The account link lets us cap how many votes a single account can cast per day and detect coordinated brigading. We do not show your votes to anyone else.

When you submit a new entity to the universal pool, we record the name and category-hint you typed plus your account. Submitted entities are reviewed by a human before they appear on the leaderboard.

What we don't collect

IP addresses (beyond the brief connection needed to serve API requests), device fingerprints, usage analytics, crash diagnostics, advertising data, or anything else. There are no third-party SDKs in the app.

Location

If you choose to attach a location to an item, your device looks up the place via Apple's MapKit. Omniranker stores the coordinate + place name on your device alongside the item. Omniranker does not access your location otherwise; the map view in the app uses pinned coordinates only, not your live location.

Photos

Photos you take or pick are stored on your device, never uploaded to a server. Removing a photo or deleting an item removes the underlying file.

Notifications

If you opt into the daily reminder, Omniranker schedules a local notification on your device at a time you pick. The notification body is generic ("Today's daily prompt — tap to do today's quick ranking") and does not include any of your data.

Children

Omniranker is not directed at children under 13.
